ByWay Books & More honor poetry month with series

Tiny Theater and ByWay Books & More celebrates National Poetry Month with a four-weekend series of poetry readings honoring the diversity of poetic traditions across history and cultures. Poets and poetry enthusiasts are invited to participate in the readings. Those interested in reading poetry may contact Tiny Theater or ByWay Books & More for more information.

This free program features performances and readings spanning major poetic movements, from classical traditions to contemporary spoken word, along with special guest appearances and themed events.

Each weekend in April will host gatherings that highlight influential poetry periods and genres including Renaissance and metaphysical poetry, romantic and Victorian poetry, faith and devotional poetry, modern and postmodern poetry, and contemporary forms such as spoken word, performance, slam, and hip hop poetry.

The series will also spotlight important thematic traditions including Beat poetry, social justice poetry, and cultural and ethnic poetic voices from around the world.

The series will also feature a special children’s poetry day, welcoming young readers and families to experience the joy of poetry through playful readings, classic children’s verse, and opportunities for young poets to share works.

On Saturday, April 4, Joan M. White will read from her debut collection “a commoner’s prayer.” White has been a practicing Buddhist for over 30 years. Copies will be available for purchase.

On Sunday, April 19, Bob Rosenthal, a noted Beat poet, editor, and longtime literary collaborator with Allen Ginsberg, will be hosting a special ticketed presentation and event in honor of Ginsberg’s centenarian birthday, celebrating the legacy and continuing influence of Beat poetry.

Poetry lovers, performers, and community members are invited to attend and participate throughout the month. For specific dates, times, and poetry genres go to www.tinytheater.org and https://bywaybooks.co/.
