Interfaith youth group fundraiser for service trip

In Charleston, these 16 young people and five adults from the greater Brattleboro area, representing Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, and Jewish faith communities, will assist local nonprofits with projects addressing food insecurity, sea mammal rescue, poverty, and homelessness during their April spring break.Sammy and Brothers band to perform at fundraiser.

A benefit concert, “Meeting the Moment: Music for Community, Justice & Service,” will be held on Saturday, March 14, at 7 pm, at Centre Congregational Church, 193 Main Street, to support the Brattleboro Area Interfaith youth group’s upcoming service and learning trip to Charleston, SC.

The concert will feature youth musicians from a capella groups Shoulder Narrows and the Alsos, and the bands Lovelace and Sammy & Brothers.

Becky Graber will lead songs from the Singing Resistance while many youth group members and service trip alumni will perform.

Admission is a suggested donation of $15, with children free, and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Tickets are sold at the door. Baked goods will be available for sale at intermission.

The group will be hosted by the nonprofit Youth Mission Co., stay in simple accommodations and contribute hands-on service while learning about the historical roots of poverty and racial injustice. The Brattleboro Interfaith Youth Group builds a multicultural community through friendships, fun, and service. It is composed of local young people, including several newcomers from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Afghanistan, and exchange students at BUHS, hosted by local families.
