A new general store, and a village’s economic viability

Jacksonville, some 7 miles south of Wilmington, is about to get a new general store.

It sounds like a parochial story that may not be of much interest to anyone other than the approximately 220 people who live in the village. But it has a lot in common with that of other small communities throughout Deerfield Valley and beyond.

For those communities that have a general store, they value it not just as a source of goods but as hubs of their communities.
