The teenager left behind in Irene’s chaos

Marble Arvidson, then 17, disappeared just as Tropical Storm Irene began devastating the region. Along with the anniversary of the storm is the anniversary of his absence.
BRATTLEBORO—Marble Ace Arvidson was 17, a senior-to-be at Brattleboro Union High School, when he left a note on his bedroom door at his foster home at 503 Marlboro Road — the red house beside the Chelsea Royal Diner — on the afternoon of August 27, 2011, the day before Irene hit.
