Audrey Elaine Wells

Audrey Elaine (Cutting) Wells, 64, born on September 9, 1961, in Bennington, VT, died on February 3, after a sudden illness, with her devoted husband by her side. She grew up in the close‑knit community of Wilmington, VT, and was a 1979 graduate of Wilmington High School. For the past 25 years, Audrey made her home in York, PA.

Audrey met the love of her life, Barry Wells, at a concert by local legends The Fabulous Farquhar at the Mount Snow ski area — a serendipitous moment that began a lifelong partnership filled with warmth, humor, and shared adventures. Audrey and Barry were married on April 7, 1991, in a Civil War–themed ceremony at Memorial Hall in Wilmington, dressed fully in period attire. Audrey and her mother lovingly made her wedding gown and the bridesmaids’ gowns, a labor of creativity and devotion that made the day deeply personal and memorable.

Audrey and Barry embraced many shared passions, especially their love of Maine Coon cats, cheering for the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, enjoying long, peaceful country drives, and indulging in Audrey’s lifelong affection for maple syrup and anything maple flavored, a sweet reminder of her Vermont heritage.

A proud Vermonter throughout her life, Audrey kept close ties with her childhood friends, often staying connected through social media. When Hurricane Irene struck Vermont in 2011, she used those connections to post updates on road conditions, alternate routes, and local information — thoughtful efforts that helped friends navigate a frightening and uncertain time. Her instinct to help others, even from afar, was a hallmark of who she was.

Audrey was known for her wicked New England sense of humor and quick wit. She especially loved following her favorite sports teams and adding her own playful commentary during games, a joy she and Barry shared for decades.

She was predeceased by her father, Richard Roy Cutting (1985) and her mother, Elaine B. (Ward) Cutting (1997). Their guidance, love, and creativity, particularly the memory of sewing her wedding gown together, remained a constant source of strength throughout her life.

Audrey is survived by her cherished fur babies, Moxie and Pudge, whose presence brought her daily joy and comfort. In addition, she leaves behind two brothers-in-law and their families, her mother-in-law, and several cousins living in southern Vermont and Pennsylvania.

A private ceremony and celebration of life will be held with family and friends at a later date.

Cards may be sent to husband Barry Wells, 657 Pennsylvania Avenue, York, PA 17404.
