Dayle Charlene Sprague

Dayle Charlene Sprague, born August 26,1940, died at home on the Sprague Farm on January 16, leaving a legacy of service, faith, and devotion to family and community.

Dayle was raised in Stamford, the daughter of Ralph and Phyllis (Morrison) Blood. She was a graduate of Drury High School in North Adams, MA and Bliss Business School in Pittsfield, MA. In her youth she enjoyed painting, raising horses, and being active in her local Grange. Throughout her life, she was known for her strong work ethic, sense of humor, and devotion to her animals.

For many decades, Dayle worked in accounting at G.S. Precision at its Wilmington and Brattleboro locations, where she was a respected employee who befriended many coworkers. She also worked tirelessly every day on the Sprague Farm, in the hours before and after her day job, and on days off from G.S. Precision.

A longtime and deeply committed member of the Jacksonville Community Church, Dayle gave countless hours in service to her congregation. She served for many years as financial secretary, helped organize numerous rummage sales, and prepared meals for church breakfasts, suppers, and repasts.

Dayle was predeceased by her husband, Harold “Bud” Sprague; her sister, Charmin Duff; her niece, Lara Wilbur Casey; and her stepson, Tom Sprague.

She is survived by her daughter, Christy Law Blanchard (Kevin); her stepchildren Donald Sprague (Barb), Frank Sprague (Arlene), Mark Sprague, Larry Sprague (Angie), and Mary Crockett (Wayne); her sister, Sheila Pecor; and a large extended family and community of friends who will remember her as both kind and stubborn in equal measure. Dayle also leaves behind her beloved dog, Mandy, who is being cared for by her friend, Carol McEwen.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Jacksonville Community Church.

Her family is deeply grateful to Bayada Hospice and local caregivers who provided for her comfort, especially her friend Rhondi Gleason, who supported her well being for many years.

Dayle’s life was defined by hard work and love of family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Graveside services for Dayle will be held Saturday, June 6, at 10 am, at the Sprague Farm, followed by a repast at the Jacksonville Municipal Center. The farm address is 2245 Burrington Hill Road. The family cemetery is on Houghton Road. The Jacksonville Municipal Center is located at 2948 Route 100.
