“The Caucasian Chalk Circle” at NEYT for one weekend only
New England Youth Theater (NEYT) presents “The Caucasian Chalk Circle,” a parable play with music and masks. It is one of the most heartfelt examples of Bertolt Brecht’s work, which often strove to engage audiences rather than immerse them. In it, two stories converge: that of Grusha, the kitchen maid who goes through many ordeals to save the infant of an overthrown governor; and Azdak, the corrupt judge who is charged with deciding whether or not Grusha must return the child to the woman who abandoned it. It is directed by Sandglass Theater founder Eric Bass, with musical direction by Magda Sharff and choreography by Shoshana Bass.
Performance dates are Friday, April 10, at 7 pm; Saturday, April 11, at 2 pm and 7 pm; and Sunday, April 12, at 2 pm. For more information or to purchase tickets go to https://www.neyt.org/caucasian-chalk-circle.
