Learn the art of pressing flowers this summer

Roden's pressed flower art has been exhibited at shows and in galleries throughout New England and featured in three national publications.

On Saturday, July 11, from 1 to 4 pm, Ellie Roden will introduce ways to turn flowers, leaves, and other plant material into beautiful art in the Old School Community Center, 1 School Street. Various tips for successful flower pressing will be shared, including microwave flower pressing for perfect and immediate results. Participants will then create personalized pressed flower art: pieces for framing, cards, and/or bookmarks. No experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided. The cost of the workshop is $25 per person, and participant minimum age is 12 years. Register by Wednesday, July 8 by contacting Roden at rodenora@gmail.com or (802) 464-5265.

Roden, a longtime resident of southern Vermont, retired primary school teacher, and avid flower gardener, has been creating art with pressed flowers for many years. Roden is a self-taught pressed flower artist who has honed the craft over years of trial and error and careful observation.

Also open for viewing will be one of Wilmington’s Vermont 250 displays.
