Chili fundraiser for interfaith youth group takes place this Saturday

The Brattleboro Area Interfaith Youth Group is holding a chili supper, on Saturday, January 31, from 5 to 7:30 pm at the First Congregational Church of West Brattleboro, in their “Club West” Fellowship Hall.

This community event will raise money for the youth group’s service and learning trip in April to Charleston, SC, one of the oldest cities in the nation, where the US Civil Qar started. There, 16 young people and five adults from the greater Brattleboro area representing Christian, Muslim, and Jewish faith communities will spend a week assisting local nonprofits with projects addressing food insecurity, sea mammal rescue, poverty, and homelessness.

The menu at the chili supper consists of both beef and vegetarian chili, cornbread, dessert, and beverage. The suggested donation is $15 for adults, less for children 12 and under.

The Interfaith Youth Group builds a multicultural community through friendships, fun, and service. It is composed of young people, over a half of whom are either recently resettled refugees from Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo or exchange students, who are interested in sharing their cultures, providing peer support, and learning about each other while doing community service each month.

No reservations are required for the supper, which will feature some live background music. The First Congregational Church is at 880 Western Avenue.
