Teacher retiring after 32 years, known for helping students exceed potential

DOVER - Last week, Sue Neuman, who has taught sixth grade at the Dover School for 32 years, met with her students for an outdoor boat race, her annual Neuman Cup. It was the first time she’d seen them in person since March, and, save Wednesday’s drive-in-style graduation with students inside their families’ cars, perhaps the last time she’ll see them in a group before they head off to middle school.
This wasn’t how she’d planned to end the school year that would culminate in her retirement, but as most anyone can attest, a lot isn’t going as planned these days.
