Brooks Library offers free e-bike rentals

Curious about an e-bike? Try one for free with a library card. Each bike has an electric assist, meaing it requires pedaling, with a 40-70 mile range between charges.

Three e-bikes are now available to reserve.  E-bikes must be picked up on a Friday and returned on the following Wednesday; there are no exceptions and no renewals. Renters will be contacted by a volunteer to arrange a specific pickup time on Friday.

To borrow an e-bike, a person must have a permanent Brooks Memorial Library card in good standing and present ID; sign a waiver releasing the town and the library from damage or physical injury; receive training and orientation; be 16 or older, minors must have a parent present for pick up; have a helmet, or borrow one from the library; ride the bike away or put the bike in a vehicle for transport, as they are too heavy for a standard bike rack; and commit to storing the e-bike indoors to protect it from weather and theft.

Anyone wishing to join the e-bike wait list can email ebikebratt@gmail.com or go to brookslibraryvt.libcal.com/reserve/e-bike_category.
