“No Kings” protest planned for Wilmington

To the Editor,
On Saturday, October 18, millions of everyday Americans in small towns, rural areas, and large cities, red and blue, will come out to exercise their First Amendment constitutional right to voice their grievances against the Trump administration’s autocratic, unconstitutional, cruel, and hurtful policies.
If you are as morally outraged as we are, we ask you, young and old, to add your presence in downtown Wilmington at the four corners, from 10 am to 12 noon.
This is a sober time for all of us. The lies, corruption, and cheating coming from the administration are intensified by the threats to our free speech as President Trump clamps down on citizens protesting on the streets of their hometowns. In our democratic union, we have the right and the privilege to demand answers to why trillions of government dollars are being slashed from our health care subsidies, Medicaid, and cancer research; why rural hospitals are forced to close for lack of federal funding; why SNAP benefits and other safety nets for children will no longer be available, and why benefits for veterans and the disabled are being dismantled all to give trillions of dollars in tax breaks to billionaires like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg.
Lincoln said, “Public sentiment is everything. With it, nothing can fail; without it, nothing can succeed.”
Or, to paraphrase, with public action everything is possible. We, the people, can make a difference. Please join us on Saturday, October 18, to bring about change.
