A rave review for Window Dressers

To the Editor:
Over the past 22 years, I have worked with many people who have heating problems in their homes caused, in part, by leaky windows. Replacing windows is too expensive for most people to consider. However, I was approached this year by an organization called Window Dressers, who make a product that can help a lot with heat loss through windows. I ordered five window inserts for my home and have been very satisified with the product.
These inserts can be ordered any time during the year, but are only manufactured and delivered during the fall months - roughly August through early November. They produce an insert that has a wooden frame, covered by a double layer of mylar and edged with a layer of foam. These inserts are not free, but they are reasonably priced, and you get a rebate from Efficiency Vermont. In my case, for five large window inserts, I paid about $250 and got a rebate of $100. When you contact the company, you will be given an appointment for a representative to come to your home and measure the windows to be covered. Then, late in summer, you will get a call asking you to come and put in four hours helping to actually make these things at a “community assembly” day in the area closest to your home. In my case, it was in Bennington.
I have had these inserts installed for about two months now, and the difference in the amount of air coming through them, compared to my old Thermopane windows, is very noticeable. I would recommend to anyone that they start saving up a little extra money now to prepare to order some for your home for next winter. If you would like to see these units, you are welcome to contact me and come to my home to see them. I can be reached at (802) 464-5872, usually after 5 pm. You will not regret purchasing these inserts from Window Dressers.
