Amid federal shutdown, food and fuel assistance are top concerns for Vermonters

MONTPELIER - Numerous state officials and community partners sounded alarm bells about the impacts of the federal government shutdown at a hearing on Thursday of the Vermont Joint Fiscal Committee. Among many uncertainties, officials expressed emergent concerns about the availability of funds for food and fuel assistance. If the government remains shut down, Vermonters could lack access to both in November.
