Fake it ‘til you make it?

Mannequins in the former Jezebel’s Restaurant in Wilmington look out on the village street.

New competition features mannequins, costumes
WILMINGTON - A truckload of mannequins, costumes, lights, and props will arrive in the center of the village this weekend, when the town’s newly-created “Fake it on Main Street” competition will commence.
A play on the highly successful “Make it on Main Street,” a business plan competition, the new competition asks artists to create lifelike scenes inside the town’s empty storefronts.
“The goal is to get people really envisioning what it would look like if these stores and restaurants were open,” said one town official.
Competitors will have the chance to win gift certificates to the town’s existing businesses. Artists will have full rein over what tableaus they create in the empty buildings, though guidelines for the competition say modern scenes will be prioritized over historical ones. That said, at least one town official said they’d be chuffed to see a faux pharmacy set up in the building most recently known as Cask & Kiln, historically known as the Parmalee & Howe Building.
