Museum of natural history names new executive director

MARLBORO-The Vermont Museum of Natural History at the Pool Nature Center has announced that Julia Menges has accepted the position of executive director.

Menges brings a deep passion for the environment, and has volunteered with animal care, programming, and events with the museum for four years. As executive director, Menges will oversee the museum’s educational programming, wildlife care, community outreach, fundraising, strategic planning, and regional conservation initiatives. In addition to volunteer work at the museum, Menges has a background in museum programs and operations, membership, and event management at natural history, youth, and arts organizations over the last ten years, and holds a master’s degree in global culture from King’s College London.

Menges also enjoys studying local entomology and how different cultures celebrate the human race and, in pursuit of that interest, has visited four of the seven continents.

The board of directors offered its strong endorsement of Menges as the museum’s next director. Menges will officially assume the role on September 1, and plans to expand the museum’s local footprint through enhanced school and community partnerships and upgraded trail experiences at the Pool Nature Center.

Located at the Pool Nature Center, the museum features one of New England’s largest collections of non-releasable wild native birds and mammals, a live raptor exhibit, and miles of protected hiking trails. The center provides year-round environmental education for schools, families, and visitors from across the region.
