Alzada Murdock Sawyer (Tide to many), died April 16 at Oakhaven Memory Care, with her daughter by her side.
Alzada was born in Readsboro, VT on July 13, 1941, the daughter of the late Harold and Barbara (Wheeler) Murdock. She attended Readsboro schools and graduated from Drury High School, class of 1959. Alzada then entered nursing school in Boston, MA. She returned to the Readsboro area and worked as an LPN in the operating room at North Adams, MA Regional Hospital for many years until she retired to spend time with the love of her life, Houghton (Pete) Sawyer. She was an active member of the Readsboro First Baptist Church where she helped make and serve monthly meals for the elderly. Over the course of her life, she could often be found enjoying arts and crafts on her own as well as with several dear friends. For many years, she enjoyed winters in Florida with her husband and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Roberts) Goodson, of South Carolina; brother, Marlin Murdock, of Texas; sisters, Rosemarie Hodgdon, of Massachusetts, and Brenda Holland, of Vermont; grandchildren, William Goodson and Naomi Goodson, of South Carolina, John Roberts, III, of Indiana, and Jeremiah Roberts, of Vermont; a great-grandson, John Thomas Roberts, of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Houghton Sawyer Jr., son, John Roberts Jr., and brothers, Allen and Richard Murdock.
A graveside service will be held at Sadawga Cemetery on Saturday, June 20, at 11 am, followed by a luncheon at Readsboro First Baptist Church.
