Driver charged in Readsboro crash
READSBORO- Police say they happened upon a crash on Route 100 near Rue Madeline at about 9:04 pm on Wednesday, December 24. There were no injuries or hazards as a result of the crash. While speaking with the driver, Michelle Riopelle, 40, of North Adams, MA, police say they observed several indicators of impairment. Riopelle was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to the Shaftsbury Barracks for processing. She was later released to a sober party on a citation to appear in Bennington Criminal Court on Monday, January 12, to answer the charge.
What’s the big hurry?
NEWFANE- Police say they were patrolling Route 30 at about 7:21 pm on Monday, December 22, when they saw a vehicle traveling in excess of the speed limit. Police say they confirmed the vehicle’s speed at 90 mph in a posted 50-mph zone using radar. Police stopped the vehicle and identified the operator as Ethan Betit, 28, of Whitingham. Betit was issued a traffic ticket for speed and a citation to appear in Windham Criminal Court on Tuesday, February 10, to answer the charge.
Massachusetts man gets a ticket and a citation
MARLBORO- Police say they stopped Anthony T. Rubino, 22, of Pittsfield, MA, after the vehicle he was operating was observed to be traveling at 73 mph in the posted 40-mph speed zone on Route 9. Anthony was released from the scene on a citation to appear in Windham Criminal Court at a later date. He was also issued a traffic ticket for the civil speeding violation.
Driver charged with DUI
JAMAICA- Police were dispatched to a single vehicle crash on Route 100 in Jamaica at about 4:55 am on Thursday, December 18. According to police, the driver in the crash was Michael Grimes, 28, of Wardsboro. While speaking with Grimes, police say they noted indicators of impairment, and he was subsequently screened and arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. He was cited to appear in Windham Criminal Court on Tuesday, January 6, to answer the charge.
No serious injuries in head-on collision
WOODFORD- Vermont State Police were dispatched to a two-car, head-on crash on Route 9 near Notch Road at about 9:39 am on Tuesday, December 16. Police say their investigation indicated that Isabella Thurber, 18, was driving east on Route 9 when she lost control on a slick part of the roadway. Thurber’s vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a vehicle driven by Ryan Astley, 35, of Spofford, NH. Police say both vehicles appeared to be totaled. Astley was transported to SVMC for evaluation of minor injuries. Vermont State Police were assisted on scene by Bennington Rural Fire Department, Bennington Rescue Squad, and Walt’s Towing.
