Financial strategies for nonprofits workshop offered in Wardsboro
WARDSBORO-Nonprofit directors, staff, and board members from across Southern Vermont are invited to attend “Financial Strategies for Strong Nonprofits,” a practical workshop focused on building stronger, more financially sustainable organizations in today’s changing funding landscape.
The workshop, held by Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation’s (BDCC) Southern VT Economy Project, will take place Wednesday, September 23, from 9 am to 12:30 pm at Wardsboro Town Hall, 71 Main Street. The day begins with a series of presentations covering essentials of nonprofit financial sustainability, including writing a business plan for a nonprofit operation, building budgets and development strategies that account for true costs and diversify revenue, and aligning mission and income streams for long-term organizational health. Whether launching a new initiative, strengthening an existing organization, or exploring new organizational models, participants will leave with new perspectives and tools.
Dani Delaini, assistant director and director of business acceleration at BDCC, will present “Building a Business Plan for Your Nonprofit,” with a focus on needs and market analysis, operational planning, partnerships, and organizational structures beyond the traditional 501(c)(3), including fiscal sponsorship, social enterprise models, cooperatives, and joint ventures.
Siobhan McDermott of Strategic Management Consulting will present “Funding for Sustainability: Budgets and Development Strategies.” McDermott will address how organizations can balance fundraising streams, develop budgets that account for the true costs of work, and build more resilient development strategies.
Susan Still, board chair of Main Street Arts and a retired nonprofit consultant, will present “Aligning Income Streams and Mission: The Matrix,” a framework for evaluating programs through the dual lenses of mission impact and financial sustainability.
Following the presentations, participants will move into interactive, hands-on workshops to begin applying the concepts to their organizations. Guided activities and peer discussion will help attendees develop strategies tailored to the needs of the organizations and learn about resources and ongoing support available after the workshop.
The event is open to nonprofit directors, staff, and board members from across Southern Vermont, and organizations are encouraged to send more than one participant.
Registration is $25 per person, including coffee and a light breakfast. Organizations registering two or more participants pay $15 per person using discount code TWOFER. An optional $15 brown-bag lunch may also be ordered for pickup at the conclusion of the workshop.
