READSBORO—The first steel beam for Readsboro’s new bridge over the Deerfield River was installed on Tuesday morning, in a crucial stage of the massive construction project that is due to cost $29 million and take almost two years to complete.
At around 10:30 am, a 500-ton crane lowered a girder weighing about 55,000 pounds into place with one end on the eastern side and the other resting on a temporary structure in the center of Readsboro’s steep-sided river gorge.
