Farmers' Market to celebrate 20th season
On Saturday, February 28, at noon, the Brattleboro Winter Farmers’ Market will be honoring its 20th season of connecting farmers and producers with the community through the depths of the long Vermont winters.
The Brattleboro Winter Farmers’ Market first opened on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at the River Garden in the heart of downtown Brattleboro. From the start, its mission was to celebrate and grow the local food shed of the greater Brattleboro area. After 12 years there was a need to find a new home where the market could grow and spread out a bit, and where customers could count on convenient parking. The four years we spent at 80 Flat Street proved critical to the market surviving the pandemic. The market is now approaching the final month of its 20th season and its fourth year in the Winston Prouty Campus gymnasium.
The Brattleboro Winter Farmers’ Market serves Windham County and the southern reaches of Windsor County, as well as Cheshire and Franklin counties of New Hampshire and Massachusetts, with a very strong commitment to equitable food access. It is the only regular weekly farmers' market in this region operating through the depths of Vermont winters. The Winter Farmers’ Market is a project of Post Oil Solutions, a community grassroots organization focusing on sustainability and resilient communities.
The celebration will be happening throughout a typical market day, fitting as a way to celebrate. When the live music breaks at noon, there will be a few words from the organizers and from some special guests. It is hoped that friends and vendors from the past 19 seasons will attend, as well as the community of dedicated market customers whose support for participating farmers and producers makes it all possible.
The public is invited to join this day of celebration at 60 Austine Drive and wish everyone well for the next 20 years. For more information email farmersmarket@postoilsolutions.org.
