Manufactured home improvement and repair funding available
The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has opened applications for the Manufactured Home Improvement and Repair Program (MHIR) for manufactured home repairs in registered Vermont mobile home parks. Applications are also open for the infill of vacant lots in registered parks. Applications for foundation awards and emergency home repairs are already open and will likely remain open for the year.
Since its launch in 2023, DHCD, in partnership with Vermont State Housing Authority (VSHA) and Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO), has awarded $9.7 million for 878 home repair, foundation, and infill projects in mobile home parks across the state.
A survey of over 90 participants found that home repair awards lessened the burden of worrying about a safe home.
MHIR provides financial assistance to qualifying homeowners and registered mobile home park owners. MHIR offerings include home repair awards of up to $18,000 for repairs that prevent household displacement; foundation awards of up to $15,000, for a new HUD-approved foundation or slab to facilitate the installation of a new or used home in a vacant lot; and infill awards of up to $20,000, to demolish and remove abandoned mobile homes. Emergency home repair awards are also available to prevent housing loss due to severe damage including complete loss of heat, drinking water or electricity.
Applications will be accepted until Tuesday, March 31, subject to funding availability. For assistance with completing a home repair application contact CVOEO’s mobile home program at (802) 660-3455, ext. 204, or mhp@cvoeo.org.
