OSEC announces summer programs
The middle school summer recreation program (summer rec), serving all area youth entering grades 6 through 8, will be held at the Old School Enrichment Center (OSEC) from Monday, June 29 through Friday, July 31, 9 am to 12 pm, with Friday field trips until 4 pm.
The goals of the program are to expose students to activities in the area and provide a safe summer environment in which to have fun, be active, meet new people, and try new things.
Campers can come for a day, a week or the whole program.
Activities are under the supervision of Sara Moore and Aspen Willard, with regular appearances by Jen Nilsen. Max Nido, Brayden Brown, Benny Gerding, Yoly Reyes, and Delaney Mola will be serving as counselors.
Programming will be free. Meals will be offered on site for free by the Twin Valley summer food program and Hunger Free Vermont.Breakfast will be served from 8:30 to 9 am and lunch from 12 to 12:30 pm.
Supervised early drop-off is available starting at 8 am. The registration form is available at wilmingtonvermont.us and can be submitted to the Wilmington Town Office. Forms will also be available on site at OSEC during camp drop-off.
Thanks to a Vermont Agency of Education grant, the summer rec program was expanded from three weeks to five, with a variety of exciting field trips and offerings planned, including various artistic options, and a focus on biking in week one and pickleball/tennis in week two.
Field trips will include trips to Mount Snow, the Clark Institute and Williams College, Hadley Climbing Gym, Lake Whitingham, and Zoar whitewater rafting. Additional evening offerings for middle school students will include attending a Keene Swamp Bats baseball game on Sunday, July 12; a pool party/BBQ at Brook Bound Inn on Monday, August 3; and a movie/game night in Buzzy Towne Park on Friday, August 28.
Additionally, three open gym evenings will be hosted at OSEC on Fridays, August 7, 10, and 17. These will be staffed by Jen Nilsen and summer rec staff. More information, including permission slips, can be found onsite at https://wilmingtonvermont.us/middle-school-summer-rec/.
Adult recreation continues through the summer, including basketball at OSEC on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 7 to 9 pm; there is no charge.
