Jr Iron Chef event set for this Saturday

Teams of elementary, middle, and high school students from across Vermont will gather for the 18th annual Jr Iron Chef VT event, the premiere culinary competition hosted by Vermont Afterschool. Some 55 teams have been busy preparing for the competition, spending time after school researching and testing potential recipes with local and seasonal foods. On Saturday, March 14, the teams will work together against the clock and other teams to prepare dishes that appeal to the taste buds of local judges.

Family-friendly activities for spectators include crepe spinning by Skinny Pancake; a photo booth by 802 Event Group; taste tests by Shelburne Farms; a composting activity by CSWD; a mobile dairy experience by New England Dairy; an educational activity by the Vermont Agency of Education; and a lemonade STEM activity by Vermont Afterschool.

Local teams from the Clubhouse, Putney; Windham Central Supervisory Union Out of School Time, Townshend; and Twin Valley Middle High School, Whitingham will compete.

The competition will take place at the Blue Ribbon Pavilion at the Champlain Valley Exposition, 105 Pearl Street. The morning heat runs from 9:30 to 11, followed by the awards ceremony and photos from 11:45 am to 12:10 pm. The afternoon heat runs from 1 to 2:20, with the awards ceremony and photos for that heat scheduled for 3:15 to 3:45.
