The Brattleboro Museum & Art Center (BMAC) invites children in grades kindergarten through six to dream up and draw pictures of imaginary creatures for its beloved biennial exhibition, “GLASSTASTIC,” a celebration of youthful creativity and artistic ingenuity. Submissions are due by Tuesday, December 15. Soon afterwards, about 20 glass artists from around New England will review them all, and each artist will select one creature to be rendered in glass.
The resulting sculptures and every drawing submitted for consideration will be exhibited at BMAC from Saturday, March 13 to Saturday, July 3.
The 2025 iteration of “GLASSTASTIC” featured such delightful creatures as “Larry,” the most popular avocado in the world; “Lil Crab,” who is eternally happy and loves to dance; “Lisa,” who has a rainbow belly and is always giving flowers to her friends; “Skeleton Pirate Man,” who gives treasure to people in need, and “Sock Monster,” who finally answers the mystery of where that other sock disappeared to.
Glass artist Jen Violette of Wilmington has participated in “GLASSTASTIC” since it was launched in 2011, and has enjoyed the process of going through the submitted drawings to find the one she will render in glass.
Each child may submit up to four imaginary creatures for “GLASSTASTIC 2027.” Guidelines and submission forms can be found at brattleboromuseum.org or picked up in person at BMAC.
For more information, contest rules, and entry forms go to brattleboromuseum.org. BMAC is open Wednesdays through Sundays, 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is “pay as you wish.” The museum is wheelchair accessible.
