River Gallery School Off the Wall fundraiser coming up
River Gallery School of Art (RGS) will celebrate 50 years of art, community, and the belief that creativity belongs to everyone with a Golden Anniversary Gala, featuring its Off the Wall fundraiser, the art lottery where everyone wins.
The celebration will take place Saturday, November 7, from 5 to 8:30 pm, at the North Barn, Retreat Farm, 45 Farmhouse Square. Remote participation is also available. A preview exhibition of the artwork will be shown for one month at Gallery 34, 34 Main Street. The work is also available to see online.
Off the Wall offers a lively twist on the traditional art auction. Participants purchase a lottery ticket from RGS and choose a number. During the event, numbers are drawn from a tumbler. When a participant’s number is called, they select a favorite piece from the artwork still available on the walls. Everyone who purchases a ticket brings home a piece of art.
This year’s event will feature more than 100 works donated by area artists, including RGS staff members, students, alumni, and friends. The collection includes paintings, pastels, mixed-media works, original prints, photography, and more. Contributing artists include Finn Campman, John Cassin, Kate Follett, Mary Giammarino, Jim Giddings, Malory Lake, Gordan Meinhard, Petie Mitchell, David Rohn, Helen Schmidt, Cameron Schmitz, Ross Smart, Melodie Squires, Doug Trump, and many others. Images of the artwork and information about participating artists is available on the River Gallery School website.
Since 1976, RGS has created space for people of all ages and experience levels to learn, experiment, express themselves, and discover creative potential through making art. The school’s 50th anniversary honors the founders, teaching artists, students, volunteers, donors, families, and community members who have shaped and sustained RGS over five decades.
Proceeds from Off the Wall support River Gallery School’s scholarship fund and outreach programs that reduce financial, physical, geographic, cultural, and other barriers to arts participation.
