Another weekend of music at Nu Mu

Turbulence Orchestra
The fifth annual Nu Mu Festival of New & Experimental Music & Art, 118 Elliot, continues Thursday, August 13, through Sunday, August 16, featuring major performances and opportunities to join in community music-making with students and pros.
On Thursday, August 13, students from Long Island University and Brattleboro’s Anarchoharmonia will play an improvised composition under the conduction of Jeff Lederer.
Performances on Friday, August 14, will include “Post-Modern 1,” a new music student ensemble from Long Island University, performing experimental works by living composers; Dr. Julian’s “Yes Yes” showcasing local Julian Gerstin’s newest musical works; and, at 9:30 pm, NU MU heads to Midnights, 2 High Street, for its annual afterparty with a performance by “Cannon Fodder.”
The Turbulence Orchestra takes the stage on Saturday, August 15, assembling more than 25 musicians playing two sets, conducted by Dave Peck, aka Sparkles The Evil Clown. Early in the evening, smaller “subunits” of the orchestra will perform 10-minute improvisations, with the full orchestra performing “Explosive Cyclogenesis” afterwards.
“Sunday Sounds,” on Sunday, August 16, is an opportunity for the community to participate in a morning of contemplative, quiet meditative improvised music-making or simply come to listen and relax. Bring a mat for yoga, dance or other quiet activities. No speaking, just being in community.
The programs are free but donations are gratefully accepted. For more information go to 118elliot.com.
