The gathering of dulcimer players meet this weekend

DEERFIELD VALEY- This weekend, August 16, 17, and 18,  mountain dulcimer players from across the country, from California and Oregon to Florida, as well as Canada, will be gathering at the Mountaineer Inn in West Dover for the 28th annual August Dulcimer Daze.  
The event, sponsored by George and Mary Haggerty, of Folk Craft Music in Jacksonville,  is one of the yearly national dulcimer gatherings.  The Saturday, August 17, concert features traditional folk music with Elaine and Larry Conger and David Haas, starting at 8 pm at Memorial Hall in Wilmington.
Elaine and Larry Conger are well known for their meticulously crafted dulcimer duets, featuring Larry on standard dulcimer and Elaine on bass dulcimer. Larry is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and has been involved with music as a vocation for almost 40 years. In 1995 he won the Southern Regional Mountain Dulcimer Championship in Mountain View,AR. Three years later, in 1998, he won the prestigious National Mountain Dulcimer Championship in Winfield, KS.  Elaine is a professional music educator and Orff-Schulwerk specialist who has a passion for instilling a love for the arts in young people. Her years as a professional musician, combined with her experience as a classroom teacher, give her a unique perspective when working with students.
Haas lives in Charleston, WV, and has been playing the mountain dulcimer since 1990. He teaches dulcimer in both private and group settings.  Haas loves to share the mountain dulcimer and its history with schools and churches, and is a popular instructor at dulcimer festivals. He plays the guitar and sings, and has taught and performed in the United States and the United Kingdom.
