Sarasa Ensemble explores impact of royal patron January 9 at the BMC
Sarasa Ensemble returns to the Brattleboro Music Center, 72 Blanche Moyse Way, on Friday, January 9, with “Patron Lobkowitz,” a concert featuring the music of Beethoven, Haydn, and Förster.
The 7 pm program spotlights Joseph Franz Maximilian, seventh Prince of Lobkowitz, a Bohemian aristocrat known for his interest in music and as a patron of Ludwig van Beethoven and other noted masters. Lobkowitz’s sister-in-law said of him: “This Prince was as kindhearted as a child and the most foolish music enthusiast. He played music from dusk to dawn and spent a fortune on musicians. Innumerable musicians gathered in his house, whom he treated regally."
Chamber music by Beethoven, Haydn, and Förster will be performed by Jesse Irons, Julia Glenn, violins; Anna Griffis, Emily Dahl, violas; and Timothy Merton, Jennifer Morsches, cellos.
The Sarasa Ensemble is a collective of extraordinary international instrumentalists and vocalists who perform classical music of outstanding quality, spanning the 17th to the 21st centuries, on both period and modern instruments, and bring this music to diverse communities.
Tickets are $20 for advance general admission, $25 at the door and are available on the Brattleboro Music Center website, bmcvt.org, by calling (802) 257-4523 or emailing info@bmcvt.org.
