BRATTLEBORO - Latchis Arts’ Spotlight series continues its focus in August on female voices.
Spotlight is a curated series, featuring films on a different theme each month which shine a spotlight on different voices in filmmaking. Films are shown on Thursdays at 7 pm, at the Latchis Theatre, and admission is by suggested donation of $10, but no one will be turned away.
On August 19, Spotlight focuses on “The Farewell,” Lulu Wang’s poignant and brilliant comedy-drama about a family, which returns home to China under the guise of a fake wedding to stealthily say goodbye to their beloved matriarch – the only person that doesn’t know she has a few weeks to live. “The Farewell”is rated PG.
The series concludes on August 26 with “Booksmart,” Olivia Wilde’s fresh, new, coming-of-age comedy from 2019 about two academic overachievers who realize their bookish ways may have cost them special moments of their teenage years. They resolve to pack four years of high school fun into one chaotic night. “Booksmart” is rated R.
