Harp-making camp planned

BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Music Center is offering a unique, weeklong program this summer that allows participants to make and learn to play their own harp. Multigenerational music lovers are encouraged to make this a family affair.
Those attending the first-ever Hands on Harps Camp, scheduled August 2 to 6 at the BMC, will build their very own “clàsarch,” or small harp, and learn to play it. The first day, Monday, August 2, from 11 am to 3 pm, will be spent constructing the harps - all supplies are provided - under the direction of master instrument maker Dennis Waring.
Sessions for the remainder of the week, with harper Rachel Clement from noon to 2 pm, will include instruction in how to play and maintain the harp. Participants will also explore the musical history of Scottish and Irish culture and how it relates to the musical traditions of New England.
This camp is open to participants ages 8 and up. Campers ages 8 to 13 should be accompanied by a guardian, for one fee. The tuition is $295, $140 to cover instrument-making materials and $155 for instruction. Scholarships are available. For more information and to register contact the BMC at (802) 257-4523 or email info@bmcvt.org.
