Community center, library hosts children’s book author

On Saturday, July 11, at 11 am, at the Dummerston community center and library, 150 West Street, Rachel Wang Yung-Hsin will read from her book, “Little Monk Writes Rain,” and guide attendees through how to write the word rain in calligraphy form, and will share parts of the story in Mandarin.
The question of why does the main character only know one word is answered by the end of the book. Little Monk has a learning challenge and cannot learn to write more. This may mean he is viewed as useless to society. But in a time of crisis, the only word Little Monk has written becomes the real rain falling down.
This story is an excellent choice for educators and parents looking for ways to engage in practices which encourage patience in children. A percent- age from the proceeds of book sales will be donated to support Lydia’s Friends of the Library.
The author is a writer, translator, and interpreter with extensive experience in intercultural communication and international education. “Little Monk Writes Rain” is Yung- Hsin’s first children’s picture book translation
published in English.
