Janet Wheeler Hubbard

Janet C. (Wheeler) Hubbard died on Tuesday, June 23, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with her loving family at her side.

Janet was born on her grandmother’s birthday, February 4, 1963 in Bennington, VT, to Henry and Carrie (Bartlett) Wheeler.

Janet grew up on her family’s farm, where she spent summers swimming in the river and winters skiing and snowmobiling. She attended Deerfield Valley Elementary School and graduated from Wilmington High School, the class of 1981. She worked a variety of jobs during and after high school, including at Hogback and Mount Snow. After driving a school bus and the Bee Line, Janet became a Licensed Nursing Assistant, working in different facilities in Southern Vermont. Her very sweet, kind, and caring nature made her an excellent LNA and later, a caregiver for her grandmother, father, and mother. She loved taking care of her family and some of her happiest moments, when she wasn’t with her children or grandchildren, were spent at the family farm.

Janet always had a kind word and a smile for everyone. She enjoyed people, sharing a joke, and sometimes even a bit of gossip.

She was so proud of and loved her sons, who survive her: Matthew Hubbard, and his wife Ashley, of Putney; and Joshua Hubbard, of Dummerston.

She also leaves her granddaughters: Alexsis, Remington, Addison, Abby, and Lilly; and grandsons, Jon and Ryan.

Janet has five brothers: Martin Wheeler, and his wife Carol Ann, of Winchester, NH; John Wheeler, and his wife, Elizabeth; Douglas Wheeler, and his wife, Jackie; Robert Wheeler, and his wife, Jill; and Paul Wheeler, all of Wilmington.

Janet leaves one sister, Diane Wheeler, and her husband, Todd Batchelder, of Boynton Beach, FL.

Janet has many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved, but was especially close to her niece, Carrie Wallace, of Wilmington.

The family would like to thank the skilled medical teams at Dartmouth Hitchcock who made a valiant effort to save Janet’s life.

A graveside service for Janet will be held on August 15, at 11 am, at the Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington.
