Marlboro Music's 75th celebration continues with more musical talent

Under the artistic direction of Mitsuko Uchida and Jonathan Biss, Marlboro Music’s 75th anniversary season continues on Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2, with the third weekend of concerts and free open rehearsals throughout the week in Persons Auditorium, 2472 South Road. Some 18 musicians will take the stage, reflecting the distinctive mix of seasoned and emerging talent that Marlboro brings together each summer. Weekend performances and open rehearsals will continue through Sunday, August 16.
Saturday evening’s program opens with Schubert’s “Viola,” D. 786, performed by Evan Luca Gray and Solomon Ge. Jörg Widmann’s “Once Upon a Time…,” for clarinet, viola, and piano, follows, played by clarinetist Jonathan Leibovitz, violist Hsin-Yun Huang, and pianist Changyong Shin. The evening concludes with Brahms’s String Quartet in A Minor, Op. 51, No. 2, with violinists Leah Amory and Clara Neubauer, violist Sofia Gilchenok, and cellist Marcy Rosen.
Sunday’s program begins with Bartók’s “Contrasts,” BB 116, performed by pianist Ayane Nakajima, clarinetist Arthur Stockel, and violinist Meesun Hong Coleman. Schubert’s String Quartet in A Minor, D. 804, follows, performed by violinists Oliver Neubauer and Leah Amory, violist Laura Liu, and cellist Alice Neary. The final piece will be Beethoven’s “Archduke” Trio, with co-artistic director Biss, violinist Anatol Toth, and cellist Macintyre Taback.
Tickets are $20 to $40 for Saturday evening’s concert and may be purchased at marlboromusic.org or by calling the box office at (802) 258-9331. Sunday’s performance is sold out. Schedules are announced at the beginning of each week and include many of the works that will be performed on the following weekend’s concerts.
