BENNINGTON - Lucille Stone Rice, 88, formerly of Wilmington, died Saturday, October 25, at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA.
Lucille was born in Greenfield, MA on April 5, 1937, the daughter of Floyd and Kathryn (Moxley) Stone. She was a 1955 graduate of Whitingham High School and a 1959 graduate of Castleton Teachers College. She met her husband to be, Harold Rice, while working at the Creemee Stand in Wilmington. Harold and Lucille were married on August 1, 1959 in the Jacksonville Church.
Lucille taught school in Townshend and Whitingham, then stayed at home for a while to raise her family. She owned and operated Valley Answering Service for 16 years, retiring in 1999. Lucille then owned and operated Country Gift Outlet with her son, Vincent, eventually selling the business in 2010.
She was a member of the Mayflower Chapter #19 O.E.S., where she was past Matron; the Mothers Club; a Wilmington School Board member; and helped with the 4-H.
Lucille is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Peter Wilson; two sons, Timothy Rice, of Groton, CT, and Vincent Rice, of Wilmington; her brother-in-law, John Rice, of Live Oak, FL; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Lucille was predeceased by her sister Corrine Boyd, brothers Marshall Stone and Carl Stone, and brother-in-law Steven Rice.
Funeral services for Lucille will be held on Thursday, November 6, at 2 pm, at the Wilmington Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington.
