To the Editor:
In April 2024, Vermont’s Agency of Natural Resources took a vital step toward protecting inland lakes from the harm caused by wakeboats and wakesports. Changes to the Use of Public Waters rules included critical operating limits, such as minimum depths and distance from shore, and the pivotal home lake rule component, aimed at preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species via wakeboat ballast tanks.
Yet, a year later, this rule remains unimplemented, and its future looks uncertain, putting Vermont’s waters at serious risk.
