Next Stage Arts will present “Twilight On the Tavern Lawn: The Stockwell Brothers,” on Sunday, August 23, at 6 pm, on the Putney Tavern Lawn, 133 Main Street. The Stockwell Brothers are an award-winning acoustic roots trio, performing three-part harmonies. Doors open at 5.
On Friday, August 28, 7:30 pm, “Dr. Steve Taubman’s Mind Magic: A Night of Laughter and Astonishment,” will take place at Next Stage Arts, 15 Kimball Hill. “Mind Magic” combines elements of comedy and mindreading with psychology and theater, drawing on Taubman’s observational skills and a refined sense of the absurd. Doors open at 6:45. General admission tickets are $27.50.
The opening reception for Putney artist Jane Kolias’ “Metalsum” exhibit is Saturday, August 29, from 4 to 6 pm, at the Next Stage Gallery, 15 Kimball Hill. Kolias’ inventive sculptures and metal quilts transform discarded objects into compelling works of art. “Metalsum” will be on display from August 16 through Sunday, November 8. On Sunday, August 30, 4 pm, at West River Park, 333 West River Road, Brattleboro, the Bandwagon Summer Series continues with The Gaslight Tinkers, NECCA, and Zara Bodé’s Little Big Band. The Gaslight Tinkers’ music fuses African, Caribbean, funk, reggae, and Latin styles. NECCA will present a student showcase, featuring aerialists and acrobats trained locally. The Little Big Band performs classic American swing, jazz, and vintage country tunes. Tickets are $28 in advance, $32 at the gate; kids under 12 are free.
