Delays with your paper: We are working on solutions

Some subscribers to The Deerfield Valley News might have some things to say about recent newspapers — that is, if they even got them yet.
One of the perennial frustrations of small newspapers is the sheer capacity of the United States Postal Service to slow delivery, adding logistical roadblocks to the journey that your newspaper takes when it leaves Dover.
A recent experience involved a change on a form that brought our out-of-state mailings to a halt for far longer than we wanted. It has taken hours for our circulation manager, Amy McNeil, to work with post office employees to untangle this mess.
But we can’t blame the post office for last week’s delay for all of our readers. A major goof required us to get the issue back on press to do it right. All we can do is apologize.
We are also seeing how we might offer subscriptions via first-class mail. It won’t be cheap, but we do want to give out-of-state readers the option to get their newspaper without unreasonable lapses.
We are taking a hard look at everything we can do to get your local news to you more reliably, including a redevelopment of our website so subscribers can log in more easily.
In the meantime, we appreciate the good will of our readers, who so often let us know about these delays but are also understanding of the realities and have been true allies in helping us make the situation better. We appreciate that partnership and the community spirit that imbues everything we do here.
