January events featured at the Brattleboro Music Center

The Brattleboro Music Center, 72 Blanche Moyse Way, announces its January program schedule.

On Friday, January 9, at 7 pm, the Sarasa ensemble will perform chamber music by Beethoven, Haydn, and Förster, patronized by Lobkowitz. Artists Jesse Irons and Julia Glenn, violins; Anna Griffis and Emily Dahl, violas; and Timothy Merton and Jennifer Morsches, cellos; will perform.

General admission tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

On Saturday, January 17, at 7 pm, Juventas New Music ensemble: Family Photos features works inspired by composers’ heritage. Through music, the concert traces each artist’s personal journey while inviting listeners to reflect on the diverse threads woven into our shared national story. Works being performed include “American Mirror,” by Derrick Skye; “Family Photos,” by Kian Ravaei; Canções da America, by Clarice Assad; “Pisachi (Reveal),” by Jerod Tate; and “Green Mountain Fugue,” commissioned in memory of Lynda Copeland by daughters Laurel, Heidi, and Julia, written by Oliver Caplan. Artists are Mina Lavcheva and Ryan Shannon, violin; Lu Yu, viola; and Matthew Smith, cello.

General admission tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

The 19th annual Northern Roots Festival workshops will be held on Saturday, January 24, from 12 to 5:30 pm. Ticket prices are: adult day $40; youth day $15. Combination tickets for the daytime workshops and Saturday evening concert are $55 for adults and $20 for youth.

The workshop sessions will include explorations of a wide variety of regional musical styles (from Sweden, Ireland, Quebec, the Gaspe, 19th century US, and England) along with a variety of “how to” sessions. The Saturday evening concert will feature performances by Liz Knowles and Kieran O’Hare, Irish fiddle and pipes; Laura Risk, French Canadian fiddle; Sara Grey and Kieron Means, traditional song; and lydia ievins, Scandinavian fiddle and nyckelharpa.

The festival weekend will wrap up Sunday, January 25, at the American Legion Hall, 1 to 5:30 pm, with the traditional pub sing, French Canadian, and Irish sessions.

Brattleboro Concert Choir performs “Thy Coming Morrow will be Clear & Bright: Music of Prophecy & the Future,” on Saturday, January 31, from 2 to 3:30 pm, at the Latchis Theatre, 50 Main Street. The concert will feature works by Schubert, Copland, Allegri, Vaughan Williams, Gibbons, Moses Hogan, Mari Esabel Valverde, Marques Garrett, Gregory Brown, Maria Guinand, and Bob Dylan.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and $10 for youth. Admission is free for those 12 and under.
