A question on the Dover Town Meeting warning asked voters if they would prefer to use half of the town’s 1% local option tax for economic development, and half to reduce municipal property tax.  The 1% local option tax had been passed at Town Meeting two years earlier, in 2007.
Four Deerfield Valley students attending Brattleboro Union High School participated in Barack Obama’s inauguration as members of the school’s marching band.  The inaugural parade has been a tradition since George Washington was inaugurated in 1789.
