A Southern Vermont College nursing student works with a patient as part of her degree program. The college and Southwestern Vermont Medical Center have developed a plan to help ease a projected shortage of nurses in the next decade. As a part of the plan, students may qualify for reduced or free tuition.
BENNINGTON - Southern Vermont College and Southwestern Vermont Health Care have announced an affiliation that officials from both institutions say will transform how they handle staffing and education in the coming years. Through the affiliation, new registered nurse students will have a job waiting for them at SVHC at the end of their schooling, and their student loan debt will be paid off by SVHC over the course of eight years. And existing registered nurses at the hospital will have the opportunity to advance their education tuition-free at the college.
