Vote or appoint? Voters to decide

WILMINGTON- Voters at Wilmington’s Town Meeting will decide whether to cede their power to elect the town clerk and town treasurer to the selectboard.
Article 4 of the Town Meeting warrant asks voters to “authorize the selectboard to appoint a town clerk,” and Article 5 asks the same question regarding the appointment of a town treasurer.  The question is the result of a law enacted by the Legislature last year allowing towns to change the two positions from elected to appointed through a vote.
