Louis Crawford Clark

Louis Crawford Clark, 83, died at home on May 22. He was born on September 17, 1942, to Louis Clark and Anne Paul. He grew up on a farm in Sewickley, PA, alongside his four younger half-siblings.

In his early twenties, Louis studied at Oxford University before meeting the love of his life, Wendy. They made Wilmington their home in 1968 and shared a devoted and happy marriage for 60 years.

Louis was an erudite and deeply intelligent man, a lifelong autodidact whose curiosity guided him through a wide range of subjects: poetry, philosophy, literature, woodworking, and horticulture, always eager to learn and understand more about the world around him.

Louis was a CPA by trade, but his talents and interests extended well beyond his profession. Over the years, he taught English and skiing and was an accounting professor at Landmark College. He was a soccer coach and referee, and a fantastic tennis player. He also dedicated time to the Pettee Memorial Library, where for over 20 years he was the treasurer. Most of all he found particular joy working outside on his property.

Louis is survived by his beloved wife, Wendy; his three children, Kathrine Clark, Susan Clark, and Colin Clark (Betsy Ralston); and his two grandsons, Jaden Anderson and Ian Anderson.

Donations in Louis’ honor may be made to the Pettee Memorial Library, PO Box 896, Wilmington, VT, 05363 or Deerfield Valley Rescue, PO Box 854, Wilmington, VT, 05363.
