Violet G. Rafus

Violet G. Rafus, 98, longtime resident, died January 3. Violet was born on May 28, 1927 to the late Erwin and Goldie (Powers) Green in Whitingham. She was one of four children. Violet received her education at Whitingham High School and graduated in 1945. Following graduation, she was employed at the New England Box Company and later at the Grand Union until she retired after 42 years in 1995.

Violet would marry her husband Ray Rafus on October 17, 1947. They were married for 42 years until his death in 1989.

In her spare time Violet enjoyed playing bingo, and was an avid bowler in the senior league. She loved to take walks, and was also a member of the Wilmington Historical Society.

Violet is survived by her sister Beverley Kimberley, of Colrain, MA; her very good and longtime friend Jane Raymo; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends – all of whom will sorely miss her presence.

Violet was predeceased by her husband Ray Rafus; her parents, Erwin and Goldie Green; a sister, Beatrice Dunn; and a brother, Cecil Green.

Friends and relatives are invited for a time of visitation from 1 to 3 pm on Friday, January 23, at Covey, Allen & Shea Funeral Home, 44 East Main Street. A memorial service will follow after visitation. The burial will be private, and scheduled later in the spring at the convenience of the family.
