Hungry Lion Bike Tour raises record sum despite low turnout

Fundraising total rises as some riders stay away because of poor weather
WHITINGHAM—The 15th annual bike ride to raise money to fight food-insecurity in the Deerfield Valley raised about $92,000, a record high, on Saturday, despite a lower-than-usual number of participants because of wet and windy weather.
The Hungry Lion Bike Tour exceeded its previous record of around $75,000 last year, largely thanks to a large single donation. This year’s fundraising total is expected to be reduced by about $10,000 in expenses to stage the event.
